Pre-Accelerator LCW Leak | Increased Extraction Gap Distance in Source A | Recycler Lam 10 Sinusoid Oscillation | Power Outage Alarm Screen |
The animation shows an inconsistency in the position the first bunch injected into Recycler. The gap between the existing batch and the newly injected batch is important. The amount of time, or number of bunches, between batches in RR allow for the rise and fall times of the kickers.
When the injection is too close to the previous batch the kicker has an effect on the beam causing losses and typically an abort. The problem is that Booster has two separate systems, cogging and phase lock, adjusting extraction time and bucket position to match with Recycler.
Booster experts are working on a solution that makes the two modules aware of each other.
Linac experts have installed a new modulator system called a Marx Modulator in the place of LRF1's old brown modulator. The following are instructions for Marx operations.
If the station trips, try resetting the trip by issuing a RESET to L:MX1ST0. If the trip status clears, issue ON to L:MX1ST0 to turn the station back on.
When issued an ON command, the Marx Modulator will automatically slowly ramp the gradient up to full value. The gradient setting does not need to be changed.
If a trip does not reset, or for any other problems or concerns, contact Matt Gardner.
Everyone involved should give themselves a pat on the back as we recently reached the NuMI base goal (the blue line). The commissioning of 4+6 slipstacking and the subsequent tuning has gotten us this far. As you can see from the plot, these goals are measured over the fiscal year. We're unlikely to hit the red line without 6+6, but the summer shutdown is driven by the Recycler collimator installation which will allow 6+6 running without large ring-wide losses.
These plots can be found from the AD homepage or here.
There weren't many big events or new implementations in March. If have overlooked something or you have something you think should be covered here, please send me an email. I'd love to have input from others. As always, let me know what you think.
Be safe out there.
